The F.I.R.S.T. is a simple and predictable GBR technique published by Foti in 2020. It allows a cortical lamina/graft complex strongly adherent to the defects, without micromovements and dead spaces, that is one of most important prerequisites for the neo-angiogenesis and the new bone formation.
The aim of the webinar is to explain the fundamental principles of a new GBR technique that can be applied in the clinical practice after a short learning curve.
The Fibrin Sealant (FS) is a drug of human origin used in general and specialist surgery for many decades. It is validated by over 6,000 papers in the literature. In oral surgery, FS stabilizes and maintains the natural clot for 10-14 days. It has adhesive, sealing and inductive action for hard and soft tissues formation. FS allows a better management of the particulate bone graft that, becoming plastic and adhesive, adapts perfectly to defects without shedding of granules. It also protects surgical wounds and stimulates faster soft tissue healing. The F.I.R.S.T., invented by Foti in 2016 and published in 2020, is a GBR technique that stands out for its simplicity, predictability and low morbidity. Based on the triad: fibrin sealant – collagenic porcine bone – collagenic porcine cortical lamina, it allows the reconstruction of compromised post-extraction sockets (Lamina Shield). In lateral and vertical GBR the F.I.R.S.T. is able to fix the cortical lamina for bone particles containment without tacks or screws. The result is a cortical lamina/graft one body strongly adherent to the defects, without micromovements and dead spaces, that is one of most important prerequisites for the neo-angiogenesis and the new bone formation. Furthermore, the minimally invasive “One-Time Cortical Lamina” technique, published by Foti in 2021, achieves a vestibular ridge augmentation to simultaneous implants that does not require surgical re-entry for their uncovering.
